Singaporean actress Sheila Sim recently shared a heartwarming memory that resurfaced when she found an old plush bunny while cleaning her home. The bunny reminded her of a small but meaningful gesture from a nurse that occurred over 30 years ago.

In a social media post on September 30, Sim recounted the challenging time when her older brother, Cedear, was fighting leukemia and desperately needed a bone marrow transplant. As fate would have it, Sim, then only nine years old, was the only match in her family. Despite the frequent blood draws and the fear that could have consumed her, Sim’s focus was on saving her brother’s life.
One day, a nurse surprised young Sim with the plush bunny. While it may have been a simple gift, it left a deep impact on her. “That bunny represents the hardest-earned gift of my life,” she wrote, adding that it symbolized the strength she didn’t know she had.
Now, decades later, Sim expressed her gratitude to the nurse, whose care and compassion helped her through a difficult time. “You saw me as more than a patient or donor,” Sim wrote. “You saw a frightened nine-year-old girl and treated me with gentleness.” She wishes she could reconnect with the nurse, who was likely in her early twenties back then.
Sim, who lost her brother to leukemia when he was 14, reflected on how the kindness of a nurse can leave a lasting mark on one’s soul, saying, “Thank you for showing me that even in the midst of pain, there is always room for love and kindness.”
