Meta has answered the call for a more robust Threads web app, and the wait is over!
The company’s recent announcement revealed that Threads enthusiasts can now enjoy an enhanced web experience. According to Christine Pai, a spokesperson from Meta, this update brings the capability to post, interact with other posts, and explore your feed. Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, confirmed this exciting development in a recent post.

Initially, the web version of Threads primarily offered the ability to view someone’s profile. Surprisingly, there wasn’t even an option to like or reshare a post, despite the presence of buttons for these actions. Interestingly, clicking on these buttons led to a QR code prompting users to download the mobile app. The newly unveiled desktop web interface closely resembles the mobile app interface, with a few minor differences. Navigation icons have shifted to the top of the page, and toggling between the “For You” and “Following” feeds now involves clicking a button at the bottom-left corner.
However, it’s worth noting that the web experience may not replicate all mobile app features. For example, according to Pai, tasks such as profile editing or sending posts to Instagram DMs can’t be accomplished through the web version.

The Threads team assures users that improvements are on the horizon. Tom Bender, a member of the Threads team, emphasized in a statement, “This is an early v1. We’re painfully aware of the feature gaps and it’s going to improve quickly.”
Threads debuted with a bang in July, seizing the opportunity to offer an alternative to Elon Musk’s Twitter platform. The app’s rapid rise to 100 million users within days of its launch outshone even last year’s massive release of ChatGPT. Notably, the app remains unavailable in the European Union.
While Threads experienced a strong start, analytics firms report a decline in usage. The improved web app, coupled with upcoming enhanced search functionality, may entice former users to re-engage with the platform.
As Threads continues to evolve, the introduction of the web version marks a promising step forward, catering to users’ preferences for desktop accessibility. The future holds exciting prospects for Threads, as user satisfaction remains a top priority for the dedicated Threads team.
