[SERI MENANTI] The new Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council (EXCO) lineup was officially unveiled today! Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim led 10 EXCO members in the oath-taking ceremony at the Balairung Seri of the Istana Besar Seri Menanti.

This swearing-in ceremony marks a historic milestone: the first time Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) have jointly formed the state government in this royal state (Negeri Beradat). Among the 10 EXCO members, two were retained from the previous administration, while eight are fresh faces, signaling a blend of experience and new energy.

The EXCO Lineup: Linggi and Palong ADUNs Retained

In this highly anticipated 10-man lineup, two veteran State Assemblymen (ADUN) successfully retained their portfolios:

  • Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli: BN (UMNO) — Linggi State Assemblyman.
  • Mustapha Nagoor: BN (UMNO) — Palong State Assemblyman.

The remaining eight fresh faces will inject new vitality into the state’s administration. According to initial reports, the PN bloc secured two EXCO seats: Razali Abu Samah (Sikamat) representing PAS, and Mohd Fairuz Isa (Serting) representing Parti Wawasan Negara (PWN/Wawasan). This reflects the agreed 8-to-2 resource-sharing formula between BN and PN in the state cabinet.

A Historic BN-PN Coalition

This is the first time in Negeri Sembilan’s history that BN and PN have teamed up to form the State Executive Council. In the recent state election, the BN-PN alliance secured a commanding supermajority, winning 25 out of 36 seats (BN 18, PN 7).

🤝 Cross-Coalition Cooperation

UMNO (BN), PAS, and PWN (PN) set aside past political rivalries at the state level. Their core strategy of ‘not splitting the Malay vote’ ultimately won the trust of the electorate.

👑 Ismail Lasim’s Leadership

The new Menteri Besar, Ismail Lasim (ADUN Juasseh), who was sworn in on August 2, demonstrated strong coordination skills in balancing the interests and demands of both the BN and PN camps during the cabinet formation.

As BN and PN sweep state after state, the formation of their respective state cabinets is under national scrutiny. While Negeri Sembilan successfully completed its swearing-in today, the Johor EXCO swearing-in ceremony has been officially postponed to this Saturday.

Analysts note that Johor also saw a massive BN-PN victory (sweeping 48 out of 56 seats). The Johor Sultan and the new Menteri Besar are reportedly taking extra time to carefully vet the final candidates, ensuring maximum administrative efficiency and team synergy for the new state government.

With the 16th General Election (GE16) on the horizon, the BN-PN cooperation model in Negeri Sembilan will serve as a crucial ‘litmus test’ for the national conservative bloc.

The new cabinet’s immediate priorities are expected to focus on reviving the state economy, restructuring state finances, and delivering on the promises made to voters during the state election campaign. The people of Negeri Sembilan are closely watching to see if this ‘hybrid’ team of veterans and newcomers can bring a new era of prosperity to the royal state.
