[KUALA LUMPUR] The Finance Ministry announced the latest Malaysia fuel prices today. From August 20 to August 26, the costs for RON97, unsubsidised RON95, and diesel will all rise by 10 to 20 sen per litre. However, the subsidised RON95 price remains unchanged.
Furthermore, authorities recently seized over 50,000 litres of misappropriated diesel in Puchong. Therefore, the government is cracking down on fuel smuggling to protect the targeted subsidy programme.
The new rates take effect at midnight on August 20 (Wednesday). Plan your refuelling accordingly!
Latest Malaysia Fuel Prices (Aug 20 To 26)
According to the Ministry of Finance, here is the new pricing structure for Peninsular Malaysia:
| Fuel Type | New Price (Per Litre) | Adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| RON97 | RM4.25 | ▲ 10 sen |
| Unsubsidised RON95 | RM3.77 | ▲ 15 sen |
| Diesel (Unsubsidised) | RM4.67 | ▲ 20 sen |
| Subsidised RON95 | RM1.99 | — Unchanged |
*Note: East Malaysia (Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan) operates under a different pricing mechanism with extra state subsidies. Thus, prices there remain unaffected by this Peninsular adjustment.
Enforcement Action: Cops Seize 50,000 Litres Of Diesel
While adjusting the Malaysia fuel prices, enforcement agencies are stepping up. Police recently raided a premises in Puchong and seized over 50,000 litres of misappropriated diesel. Thus, this operation sends a strong message against fuel smuggling. The government wants to ensure targeted subsidies reach the right people instead of flowing into the black market.
Cost Of Living Relief: SARA Aid Expansion
Facing rising Malaysia fuel prices and living costs, the government is also adjusting its aid mechanisms. Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid recently revealed plans to expand the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid.
In the future, recipients might use SARA to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat. This initiative aims to help low-income groups achieve better nutrition and ease inflation pressure.
Maintaining proper tyre pressure and avoiding harsh braking can reduce fuel consumption by 5%-10%, partially offsetting this price hike.
