“I really need money now,” the 44-year-old candidly admitted. “Many people in Hong Kong are in the same boat, just waiting for money.”

After marrying Kwok in 2006, Cindy stepped back from acting to focus on raising their two children, Brad, 16, and Blair, 13. She also pursued a master’s degree in nutrition during her time away from showbiz. Now, after years of being out of the industry, she feels disconnected and is relearning how to navigate the world of work.
“I haven’t filmed any dramas since 2005, so I feel out of touch,” Cindy explained. “I spent most of my time caring for my kids and studying, so I didn’t even follow the news much. It’s like I’ve come back to Earth from Mars.”
One of her biggest challenges is rent, which has become her largest expense. Renting a place on her own for the first time, Cindy admitted feeling overwhelmed. “I didn’t know how much commission to pay, and I had to ask for advice to avoid being scammed.”
Though she hopes to buy a home one day, she knows that goal is far off. “I haven’t worked in years, so I don’t have that savings built up yet.”
As for romance, Cindy isn’t concerned. “Right now, my priority is making money,” she stated. Au and Kwok, who separated two years ago, finalized their divorce in May. She chose not to be included in Kwok’s HK$90mil (RM48.7mil) assets to “avoid complications and unnecessary hassle.”
