Honor 90 Lite 5G vs. Samsung Galaxy A14 5G: Choosing the Best in Pakej 5G Rahmah

Malaysia’s Communications and Digital Minister, Fahmi Fadzil, recently unveiled details of the Pakej 5G Rahmah plan, designed to make 5G accessible through affordable postpaid plans and device bundles. Two smartphones featured in this program are the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G and the Honor 90 Lite. Let’s dive into the specifics and determine which device offers the better value.

Pakej 5G Rahmah: Affordable 5G for All

Under the Pakej 5G Rahmah plan, Malaysians can enjoy postpaid plans offering a minimum of 60GB of 5G data for just RM60 per month through participating telcos. These plans include 5G smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G and the Honor 90 Lite, priced at RM240. Additionally, the first 100,000 B40 consumers signing up get an RM120 subsidy, and telcos may offer further discounts.

The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G, priced at RM949, features a 6.6-inch FHD+ LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate, an upgrade over its predecessor. It runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The device operates on Android 13 with One UI Core 5, guaranteeing two major OS upgrades and up to four years of security updates.

Its camera setup includes a 50MP main camera, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor, with a 13MP front camera. A 5,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging powers the device, which also includes a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and support for Bluetooth 5.2, WiFi 5, and 5G.

The Honor 90 Lite stands out with a slightly larger 6.7-inch FHD+ LCD display offering a 90Hz refresh rate and superior color reproduction. It runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6020 processor, slightly outperforming the Dimensity 700 in the Galaxy A14 5G. With 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, it operates on Android 13 with MagicOS 7.1.

Its camera setup includes a powerful 100MP main camera, a 5MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro sensor, complemented by a 16MP front camera. The device boasts a 4,500mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and support for WiFi 5, NFC, Bluetooth 5.3, and 5G.

Which to choose?

The Honor 90 Lite excels with a larger display, a newer processor, more RAM and storage, and an impressive camera setup. While priced at RM1,099 compared to the RM949 Galaxy A14 5G, the Samsung device offers extended software support and a larger battery, making it user-friendly.

Your choice may also depend on your telco selection for the Pakej 5G Rahmah plan. For instance, Yes 5G offers the Honor 90 Lite for RM200 and the Galaxy A14 5G for just RM100 with their RM58/month Yes Infinite+ Postpaid plan. If you’re among the first 100,000 B40 members to sign up, you’ll receive an RM120 subsidy, effectively making the Galaxy A14 5G free and reducing the Honor 90 Lite’s price to RM80.

In summary, both devices have their strengths, and your decision should align with your specific needs and preferences.
