Rosyam Nor’s Journey: From Farming Failures to Agricultural Success

Who would have guessed that Datuk Rosyam Nor, the acclaimed actor and director, once faced two major failures when he ventured into agriculture? His initial setbacks were due to a lack of knowledge in the field, proving that even financial resources alone cannot guarantee success.

Reflecting on those early struggles, Rosyam shared that they became valuable lessons. “I failed twice in agriculture. But those failures taught me the biggest lessons. At the time, I was overconfident, thinking that having money was enough to succeed,” he said during a talk show at the Two Years of Madani Government (2TM) Programme. “Actually, agricultural knowledge is crucial… Alhamdulillah, it’s been 14 years now since I started farming at TKPM Lanchang.”

Rosyam’s persistence paid off on his third attempt when he used his own capital to cultivate honey jackfruit and other crops at the Permanent Food Production Park (TKPM) in Lanchang, Pahang. Today, his success in agriculture not only bolsters his personal ventures but also aligns with his commitment to giving back to the community.

“Malaysians have made Rosyam Mart a recognisable brand, especially among the Malay community. I feel a responsibility to use my brand to promote agriculture,” he explained.

The talk show, part of the 2TM Programme held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Nov 22 to Nov 24, highlighted the role of farmers’ organisations in ensuring food security. The event offered various services and activities, including entrepreneur booths, helmet exchanges, and the Madani Rahmah Sale.

Rosyam’s collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) is an ongoing effort to inspire others to embrace agriculture. His journey serves as a testament to the resilience and knowledge needed to thrive in this vital industry.
