Good Trip Movie: Nick Cheung and Chung Suet Ying Team Up for an Emotional Father-Daughter Journey
[ENTERTAINMENT] The heartwarming Hong Kong road trip film Good Trip (我阿爹想旅行) officially releases on October 15, 2026. Therefore, this project, backed by the Hong Kong Film Development Council’s “First Feature Film Initiative”, is generating massive pre-release buzz.
Furthermore, it marks the first on-screen father-daughter collaboration between Golden Hong Kong Film Award winner Nick Cheung and Golden Horse Award winner Chung Suet Ying. Thus, this is not just a geographical journey, but a profound emotional redemption.
The Plot: An Unplanned Road Trip for a Soup Bowl
The story follows Mo Tsz-shan (played by Chung Suet Ying), a film art assistant constantly rushing between the movie set and the hospital for her cancer-stricken father, Mo Chun-keung (played by Nick Cheung). She initially wants to stay by his hospital bed. However, her father insists on accompanying her on a simple errand to retrieve a large soup bowl from a prop warehouse.
Consequently, the duo sneaks out of the hospital overnight, sparking an unplanned road trip. They travel from the New Territories to Macau, and eventually to Okinawa. Thus, this journey heals old wounds. After her father’s peaceful passing, he leaves his daughter not with grief, but with courage, optimism, and a deep love for life.
Cast Highlights: Ancient Costumes and Surprise Zombies
Beyond the stellar father-daughter duo, the film features a powerhouse ensemble cast including Emily Kwan, Stanley Yau, Keung Ho-man, Philip Yuen, and Thaome.
The MIRROR member surprises fans with a long-haired, ancient martial arts costume, wielding a broadsword in a highly stylish cameo.
Philip Yuen delivers a hilarious surprise performance by dressing up as a zombie, adding a touch of humor to the heartfelt drama.
Emily Kwan and Nick Cheung reunite on screen for the first time since their 2000 comedy film The Bare-Footed Kid.
Thaome plays a significant role, appearing alongside Stanley Yau in stunning ancient martial arts attire.
Directors: Norris Wong and Hoi Wong’s Passion Project
Good Trip is co-directed by Norris Wong (Fill Me Up) and Hoi Wong. The story is partly inspired by Norris Wong’s real-life experiences with her own father. Therefore, the film is packed with genuine emotion and meticulous observation.
Furthermore, the directors initially tried to fund the film by selling their own properties. Ultimately, they secured funding from the Hong Kong Film Development Council’s “First Feature Film Initiative”, with acclaimed Oscar-nominated director Mabel Cheung serving as producer. Thus, this is a labor of love.
