Malaysians could miss out on subsidised RON95 petrol under the new Budi95 scheme if their MyKad and driving licence records don’t match, according to the Ministry of Finance.
Why Matching Records Matter
Starting tomorrow, petrol pumps will use MyKad details to confirm if a motorist qualifies for the subsidy. If the information on your licence doesn’t match your MyKad, the payment terminal may reject your eligibility.
Many older driving licences are still registered under old ID formats—such as military numbers, police numbers, or old IC numbers—rather than the current 12-digit MyKad. This mismatch can cause problems at the pump.
What You Should Do
The ministry is urging all drivers to double-check their licence details. Make sure your licence shows:
- The correct 12-digit MyKad number
- Your full legal name
- The right vehicle class
If anything is outdated or wrong, head to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to update your records immediately.
Weekly Data Sync to Prevent Issues
To smoothen the transition, the government will run weekly data updates. This means any recent corrections should be reflected quickly to avoid disruptions at petrol stations.
What is Budi95?
Budi95 is part of the Budi Madani programme, designed to ensure only eligible Malaysians enjoy subsidised fuel. With this scheme, qualified citizens can purchase RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre, with a monthly limit of 300 litres.
The subsidy will officially cover all eligible Malaysians starting today.
