In a significant update, Touch ‘n Go eWallet is reintroducing Face ID and Touch ID authentication for payments, making transactions more convenient and secure for users. After more than a year since Face Verification was disabled, this feature is making a comeback, allowing users to authenticate payments without the need to enter a 6-digit PIN in public spaces.
Touch ‘n Go eWallet is now offering the option to enable PassKey authentication, eliminating the need for passwords during logins. This latest enhancement aims to streamline the user experience, making transactions and app access more seamless and user-friendly.
Previously, Touch ‘n Go eWallet had facial recognition for payment authentication, but it was not utilizing Apple’s Face ID technology. Following a brief suspension from the AppStore, the feature was removed. Earlier this year, biometric security was reintroduced but limited to app launches, excluding payment authentication.
As 2023 approaches its end, Touch ‘n Go eWallet is gradually rolling out the facial authentication feature to selected users. Eligible users will find a new Security Authentication option under their profile settings, allowing them to choose between device biometrics or the traditional 6-digit PIN for payments.

The device biometric method is applicable for DuitNow QR payments and reloading Enhanced Touch ‘n Go cards with NFC. With this method, users can confirm payments swiftly and securely using facial recognition, providing a faster alternative to entering PINs in public spaces. In case Face ID fails, users can still authenticate payments using their 6-digit PIN.
A novel security measure introduced by Touch ‘n Go eWallet is the PassKey authentication. This passwordless login method, supported by the FIDO Alliance and World Wide Web Consortium, allows users to log in via Face ID or Touch ID. PassKey is currently limited to iPhones running on iOS 16 and above.
Creating a PassKey is simple—users can navigate to their profile page, access Security Authentication, select Login, and tap on PassKey. After creating a PassKey, users are prompted to save it to their iCloud Keychain. This PassKey can then be used to log in to Touch ‘n Go eWallet instead of entering the 6-digit PIN. In case of any issues with the PassKey, users can revert to logging in using the traditional PIN method.
