The Academy Award trophies
The Academy Award trophies

Yesterday, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented the 96th Academy Awards show, one of the biggest award events in the film industry. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and featuring performances from all of the Best Original Song nominees, including ‘I’m Just Ken’ by Barbie’s Ryan Gosling, the show gave out 23 awards to honor the best and biggest films that premiered last year, as well as the individuals involved in creating them.

Continuing its domination in both the box office and critical reception, Oppenheimer wins 7 of its 13 nominations, which included Best Director, Best Lead Actor and Best Picture. As well as being famed director Christoper Nolan’s first Best Director award, it was also celebrated for its cinematography, editing and score.

Other multiple-award winners include Poor Things, giving Emma Stone her second award for Best Lead Actress, as well as other technical awards: Best Production Design, Best Makeup and Design and Best Costume Design. Best International Feature was awarded to The Zone of Interest, which also won Best Sound.

Other notable wins were popular director Wes Anderson winning his first ever Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film, and Studio Ghibli’s The Boy and the Heron triumphing over Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in Best Animated Feature.
