Which BYD Dolphin model will debut in Malaysia remains a mystery at this time. In Thailand, for example, the Standard Range and Extended Range variations were the arrangement that BYD designed for the Atto 3.
The Standard Range variant boasts a single electric motor with an output of 70kW (95hp) and 180Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100km/h takes approximately 12.3 seconds. Equipped with a 44.9kWh BYD Blade battery pack, the Standard Range offers a WLTP range of 340km. Charging options include an onboard 7kW AC charger, as well as support for DC fast charging at up to 60kW.

On the other hand, the Extended Range variant provides a higher WLTP range of 427km, thanks to a larger battery pack with a capacity of 60.48kWh. It features a more powerful 150kW electric motor, delivering 310Nm of torque and achieving 0 to 100km/h in just 7 seconds. Similar to the Standard Range model, the Extended Range includes a 7kW onboard AC charger, but offers improved DC fast charging of up to 80kW. Additionally, the higher-end variant boasts a multi-link suspension system, providing enhanced handling compared to the torsion beam setup found in the Standard Range model.
Expected Pricing and Launch Details
Although pricing in Thailand starts below THB700,000, it’s important to note that the BYD Dolphin is likely to have a starting price of above RM100,000 in Malaysia. This is due to the current regulations set by the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), which restricts the pricing of new CBU EVs below RM100,000. However, the Dolphin is expected to be priced below RM150,000, taking into account its smaller size compared to the Atto 3 model.
Based on estimates, the Dolphin Standard Range is anticipated to be priced between RM110,000 and RM120,000, while the Extended Range variant may range from RM125,000 to RM135,000. The official pricing and further details will be unveiled during the highly anticipated BYD Dolphin launch at the end of this month.
With the imminent arrival of the BYD Dolphin EV in Malaysia, electric vehicle enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the launch of this highly capable and stylish vehicle. Stay tuned for more updates and be ready to experience the next level of electric mobility with the BYD Dolphin EV.
