Chinese Actress Jia Ling, Who Shed 50kg for ‘Yolo,’ Becomes Prada’s Brand Ambassador

Chinese comedienne-actress Jia Ling, known for her breakout role in the sports drama “Yolo,” has been announced as Prada’s newest brand ambassador.

Jia, who not only starred in but also directed the inspirational film about an unconfident, overweight woman transforming her life through boxing, shared the exciting news with her followers on Weibo on June 2. In her post, she included stunning campaign photos taken by renowned Chinese fashion photographer Wang Ziqian.

In the images, Jia, 42, looks elegant and stylish in various Prada outfits and accessories, including a chic trench coat paired with the brand’s new Galleria bag. She expressed her admiration for the luxury Italian brand, commenting that Prada creates “something extraordinary through colours, stories, and silhouettes.”

Prada echoed Jia’s sentiments on their own Weibo post, praising her for her fearless approach to breaking rules. They highlighted her impressive transition from actor to director, noting that she brings “fresh vitality and creativity” to every new chapter she writes.

Jia’s dramatic physical transformation in “Yolo” captivated audiences and media alike. For her role as the protagonist Du Leying, she gained 20kg to reach approximately 100kg and then lost 50kg over the course of a year to portray a character transformed by a passion for boxing.

“Yolo” has been a massive success, earning over 5.4 billion yuan (RM3.5 billion) and making Jia the highest-grossing female director in Chinese film history. Her inspiring journey and remarkable achievements continue to resonate with fans and industry insiders alike.
