During the 77th British Academy Film Awards that occurred on the 18th of February, 2024, “Oppenheimer” made waves by winning seven of its thirteen nominations, including Best Film.
“Thank you for letting us all take on something quite dark and seeing the potential in that,” says Christopher Nolan, during his speech for winning Best Director. “Our film ends on what I think is a dramatically necessary note of despair. But in the real world, there are all kinds of individuals and organisations who have fought long and hard to reduce the number of nuclear weapons in the world and since its peak in 1967, they’ve done it by almost 90%.” He then goes on to commend their efforts and states that they show the necessity and potential for world peace.
