Pokémon Day, which falls on the 27th of February, the original release dates of the Pokémon Red and Green more than 20 years ago, aims to celebrate the wildly popular video game franchise that has captured the hearts of people worldwide.
In commemoration, The Pokémon Company aired a Pokémon Presents, showcasing the future of Pokémon by announcing updates to previous games and, more importantly, announcing two new ones. In case you missed it, here are the two new games that were announced at the event.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A
The biggest reveal of the event was a new Pokémon Legends game named Pokémon Legends: Z-A. While no gameplay of it was shown, the trailer takes place in Lumiose City, one of the main cities featured in Pokémon X and Y. It also ends with a Mega Evolution symbol, a type of evolution that was also introduced in those games.
Unlike the previous game, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which saw players travelling back in time, the trailer has a more futuristic look to it, leading some fans to speculate that time travel might be involved again.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is planned to release in 2025.
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket
Another exciting announcement is the new Pokémon mobile game, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. This mobile app aims to translate the enjoyment of the popular Pokémon trading card game into a digital format. As well as introducing quicker battles for casual players, it also has booster packs that contain Pokémon cards to collect, play with or trade.
According to the official Pokémon website, “Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket introduces “immersive cards,” which give players the experience of leaping into the world of the card’s illustration, providing a whole new way to enjoy the Pokémon TCG. Players will be able to open two booster packs every day at no cost, including cards with nostalgic illustrations as well as new cards found only in the app.”
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is planned to release in 2024.
