Princess Kate and Prince William helped fulfill the dream of a young photographer, Liz Hatton, during an emotional day at Windsor Castle on October 2. Sixteen-year-old Liz, who was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer in January, had a bucket list of experiences she hoped to achieve. One of those dreams came true when the royal couple invited her to photograph an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle.
Diagnosed with desmoplastic small round cell tumor, Liz has spent much of her time pursuing her passion for photography despite her prognosis of having only six months to three years to live. On Wednesday, she captured a special moment at Windsor, with Prince William and Princess Kate expressing their admiration for her talent and resilience.
“It was a pleasure meeting Liz today,” the couple shared on social media, describing her as an “inspiring young photographer” whose story had touched them both. Alongside the post, they shared heartwarming photos, including one of Kate hugging Liz and another with her family.
Liz’s journey has been remarkable. After her mother, Vicky Roboyna, shared her bucket list on social media in May, opportunities poured in for Liz, far exceeding their expectations. “It’s completely blown our minds,” her mother said, grateful for the amazing experiences Liz has had.
At the Windsor event, several sports stars were honored, including cyclist Mark Cavendish, and Liz was there to document it all. The prince and princess thanked her for capturing the day’s special moments.
Kate, who has been recovering from her own cancer treatment after a diagnosis earlier this year, expressed the challenges her family has faced but remained hopeful, saying, “Life can change in an instant.”
