Once again, Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh stole the spotlight as she graced the red carpet at the 2024 Met Gala in New York City. The Malaysian actress made heads turn in a Balenciaga ensemble that shimmered like tin foil.
In an interview with People magazine, she shared the backstory behind the eye-catching design. According to Yeoh, creative designer Demna drew inspiration from his childhood, reminiscing about crafting dresses out of tin foil for his sister’s toys.
“It’s like a journey back in time,” Yeoh mused. “To think that I’ve brought back his childhood memories to life on the grand stage of the Met Gala is truly special.”
Sporting a chic new hairstyle—a short, edgy bob—Yeoh emphasized that her look was a collaborative effort with Demna, encompassing not just the attire but also the jewelry, hair, and makeup.
This isn’t Yeoh’s first rodeo at the Met Gala. She graced the event last year in a stunning Karl Lagerfeld creation and the year before in a mesmerizing Prabal Gurung gown.
Recently, Yeoh received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from US President Joe Biden, a tribute to her groundbreaking achievement as the first Asian actress to win an Oscar for “Best Actress” in 2023.
With a history of turning heads at runway events and being dressed by top designers, Yeoh’s presence at the Met Gala adds to her illustrious fashion legacy.
Known as “fashion’s biggest night out,” the Met Gala isn’t just about style—it’s also a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute, showcasing the artistry and creativity of the fashion world while supporting a worthy cause.
