Former NCT member Moon Tae-il has been indicted on charges of sexual assault, according to a report by South Korean news outlet Chosun Ilbo on October 7. The 30-year-old, who was known as Taeil in the music world, is accused of sexually assaulting a woman alongside two other men. He was questioned by police at the Bangbae Police Station in Seoul and referred to the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office on September 12, though the prosecution has not yet summoned him for further questioning.

The charges fall under “special quasi-rape,” which involves two or more people assaulting a victim who is unable to resist due to incapacitation or intoxication. If convicted, Moon could face a prison sentence of at least seven years, or even life.
The alleged incident reportedly took place when the victim was intoxicated, and the other two men involved are not public figures. Moon, once the lead vocalist and oldest member of NCT 127, was first reported to the police in June and questioned on August 28. The same day, his agency, SM Entertainment, publicly announced his departure from the group due to the “serious criminal sexual offense” charges against him.
The sudden news came as a shock to both fans and the entertainment industry, leading to disruptions in NCT 127’s promotional activities. Jaehyun, another member, postponed a fan-signing event, while Mark and Haechan canceled their video call fan-signing sessions.
Moon, who debuted in 2016 as part of NCT U and later joined NCT 127, was part of the group’s last performance in Singapore in 2022.
