Psy’s Home Seized Over Unpaid Penalty

SEOUL: Renowned singer Psy, best known for his global hit Gangnam Style, recently faced a temporary seizure of his luxury home in Seoul after failing to pay an administrative penalty, as reported by local media on Monday (Nov 25).

The 46-year-old star’s property, located in the upscale Hannam-dong district of Yongsan-gu, Seoul, came under scrutiny after reports of illegal modifications were filed with the district office. This apartment, part of a high-end complex where Psy’s family once lived before renting it out in 2020, became the center of a dispute over unapproved construction work.

Authorities had warned Psy to either restore the home to its original state or pay a penalty. After more than a year of inaction, the district office seized the property in May.

The matter was resolved in October when Psy paid the penalty, leading to the release of the property from government seizure.

In a statement, Psy’s agency, P Nation, clarified that the unauthorized modifications were made by the construction company without Psy’s knowledge. The delay in addressing the penalty, they explained, stemmed from Psy only belatedly reviewing the notice issued by the authorities.

The agency further assured that Psy, along with other residents of the apartment complex, is actively cooperating with the Yongsan-gu office to reverse the illegal construction and resolve the matter fully.

This incident highlights the challenges of managing high-value properties and the importance of adhering to local regulations. – The Korea Herald/ANN
