Ruco Chan Shuts Down Explosive ‘Gold Digger’ Rumors About Wife Phoebe Sin

Hong Kong actor Ruco Chan has recently spoken out in defense of his wife, former Miss Hong Kong finalist Phoebe Sin, amidst allegations that she is a gold digger. The criticism arose after Sin, 34, was seen carrying a Hermes Birkin bag, valued at HK$160,000 (approximately RM96,616), during a museum visit with Chan.

Online trolls quickly labeled Sin as materialistic, accusing her of spending Chan’s money on luxurious items. At a recent charity event, Chan addressed these claims, standing up for his wife against the baseless accusations.

“We were attending an exhibition with many valuable artifacts, so we were dressed formally,” explained the 47-year-old TVB star. He humorously added, “My wife married me for my money. Anyone can find information online showing my strong financial background. I’m actually the illegitimate son of a rich man!”

Chan clarified that he had given Sin the Birkin bag a long time ago as a gift of his own accord. “Since she was willing to marry me, I had to give her a present first,” he said. He emphasized that it is only natural for a husband to buy presents for his wife.

“My wife likes bags and has her own collection of paper bags and reusable bags. She likes anything pretty … it’s not about the brand or its value,” Chan added, highlighting Sin’s appreciation for aesthetic items rather than their monetary worth.

Ruco Chan and Phoebe Sin first met in 2016 when Chan appeared as a guest judge for Miss Hong Kong. The couple announced their engagement on September 10, 2018, and were married on October 13 of the same year. They are proud parents to their five-year-old daughter, Quinta.
