On the day of her death, Chen posted several touching photos on Instagram, including a childhood picture with his mother and images of them holding hands and walking together at Gardens by the Bay. In his emotional caption, he wrote, “If there’s a telephone in heaven, I really want to call you twice every day to talk to you like I used to do. Mum, I want to hear your voice so much. I miss you so much.”

Chen’s mother lived in Johor Baru with his father, while Chen himself is based in Singapore. Her wake is being held at Nirvana Skudai Memorial Center in Johor until July 30. Many of Chen’s fellow actors, including Christopher Lee, Zoe Tay, Pornsak, and Dennis Chew, have expressed their condolences in the comments.

In an interview with Shin Min Daily News, Chen shared that his mother had been unwell for the past few months but did not disclose specific details about her condition. He emphasized that he was by her side every day towards the end and that she passed away peacefully. When asked about her last words, Chen revealed that she had urged him to take care of himself and their family.

Chen also shared a poignant promise he made to his mother: he plans to have his ashes laid to rest beside hers after he passes away. This heartfelt commitment underscores the deep bond they shared.

Despite his mother’s illness, Chen had been dedicating recent social media posts to his parents. On Mother’s Day, May 12, he posted a photo of himself trimming his mother’s toenails, expressing his wish for her to be healthy and happy. On Father’s Day, June 16, he shared screenshots of incoming calls from both his parents, cherishing the simple joy of staying connected with them.
