In George Town, love is blooming as Mother’s Day approaches. This Sunday, many are gearing up to shower their moms with affection, ensuring they’re never short of hugs or flowers.
Florists are witnessing a surge in demand for Mother’s Day blooms, confirming that more people are opting to send floral gestures to their moms. Sharon Lim, based in Bayan Baru, has seen orders triple compared to regular months. She’s even received calls from customers in other states, seeking to arrange bouquets for their moms residing nearby.
Lim, with 31 years of experience, notes a heartwarming trend of men visiting her shop with their kids, ordering flowers for moms and grandmas alike. It’s a touching gesture that speaks volumes about familial love and appreciation.
Despite the El Nino-induced heat and humidity posing challenges, Lim diligently sources flowers from various regions, including Cameron Highlands, China, India, and Kenya. Carnations and roses top the popularity charts for Mother’s Day, though lilies and baby’s breath are also in demand.
Preparations kick into high gear days before the big day, with fresh blooms arriving and being meticulously arranged into stunning bouquets. Bouquet prices range from RM50 to RM300, with Lim juggling over 200 orders this year alone.
The Mother’s Day frenzy isn’t confined to individuals; families, government offices, private companies, and local politicians are all joining in the celebration, ordering flowers for moms in workplaces and communities.
To sweeten the gesture, many are pairing their floral gifts with cakes and chocolates. Meanwhile, restaurants across the city are rolling out special discounts, ensuring a memorable and heartfelt Mother’s Day celebration for all.
