Tragic Air Crash Near Elmina Claims 10 Lives, Searches Nearly Completed

In a devastating incident that unfolded near Elmina in Shah Alam on Thursday, August 17th, an aircraft carrying six passengers and two flight crew members tragically crashed. The outcome was heart-wrenching, as all eight individuals on board are believed to have lost their lives. Moreover, the impact extended to the ground where two motorists were struck by the falling aircraft, leading to their unfortunate demise as well.

Among the victims, Pelangai assemblyman Datuk Seri Johari Harun was also identified, magnifying the shock and sorrow of this incident.

Addressing the public’s concerns, Norazman Mahmud, the CEO of CAAM, stated during a press conference that the Beechcraft Model 390 had been certified as ‘airworthy’. Despite this assurance, the tragedy has shaken the community and sparked discussions about air safety.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke further released the flight manifest, revealing the names of the other victims. The flight’s pilots were identified as Shahrul Kamal Roslan and Heikal Aras Abdul Azim, and, alongside Johari, the passengers were Kharil Azwan Jamaludin, Shaharul Amir Omar, Naim Fawwaz Muaidi, and Taufiq Zaki. The two motorists who lost their lives on the ground have yet to be identified.

As investigations continue, it was disclosed that the aircraft had veered off course before the crash. Authorities are diligently searching for the aircraft’s black box to provide more insight into the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.

The aircraft had taken off from Langkawi International Airport at 2:08 pm en route to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport. However, it didn’t reach its destination, resulting in a tragedy that sent shockwaves through the community.

Rescue efforts, though challenging, are nearing their completion as the search for aircraft debris and human remains in the Elmina Township area reaches its final stages. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain shared that the search operation has been thorough, revealing the recovery of human remains and personal belongings of the victims.
